The soft techniques are the movements that involve continuous contact with your opponent and general involve escapes from being grabbed, and having the option to throw the opponent on the floor, and pin. By using Kempo's principles, you can weaken your attacker's position and strengthen your own - through a combination of balance, leverage, timing and weakpoints for example.
In order to throw someone larger and stronger than yourself, you develop power by acting with the strength of your whole body and apply in it such a way it is hard to resist. By learning the principles behind the techniques the opportunities revealed in an attacker's position are exploited to maximum effect.
Names of the techniques are given in Japanese to reflect the background of the style. Also by using this way of referring to techniques, a kempo student can practise in any dojo in any country and still be able to join in. This is in keeping with spirit of harmony of Kempo.
